As Saturday dawned, we saw the Dave that we all know and love, except for the hideous red rash all over his body from a pain medication! He looks quite funny. But, what a difference in him. He is alert, coherent, eating, making his own decisions about meds, therapy, etc. It was nice to see. He is still in bed, of course, he has a long way to go still with the physical therapy, but things looked very positive Saturday. He has decided, however, to delay the Kyphoplasty on the last 3 fractured vertebrae. It was originally scheduled for Sunday. He has had some pain relief from Thursdays procedure. My guess is that he would like to enjoy a few days of comfort before going through this again. (Post surgery, on Friday, was not very comfortable for him.)
He is still in danger of catching germs, so the 'no visiting' rule is still in effect. As soon as that changes, I will let you know. He starts another round of Chemo on Tuesday, so it probably won't change for a while.
His progress has been so up and down, that it is even hard for the Docs to predict. The Dave that I saw on Saturday, is the 'mighty Dave' that is going to get his butt up and get himself home. He is very determined about that.
His life has changed, obviously, and some of the things that he used to be able to do are no longer possible, but he does have, at this moment, a life to look forward to.
As his friends and family, we need to continue with the support that we have been giving him, spiritually and financially. That's what he needs from us.
Dave and Kathy have asked me to thank you all many, many times. They are just so grateful for each and every one of you. And I am sure that when they get through the rough chapter, they will be contacting you personally.
But, I, too, would like to thank you all for your feedback on the blog, and your correspondence with me through e-mail, phone, etc. It has been a pleasure for me to meet some of Dave and Kathy's friends and family members.
I will update you this evening.
Keep those happy thoughts,
Snuggle often

Marilyn,
Thank you for keeping us informed of Dave's daily progress. I am a co-worker of Kathy's. I do not know Dave but they have both been in our prayers since all of this began. I will continue to pray for him and Kathy. They are very fortunate to have a friend like you, Marilyn.
Lorraine
Thanks, Lorraine. It's not too hard to be a friend to people like Kathy and Dave. I am glad to hear that this Blog. in some way, is keeping you all informed. Thanks for letting me know.
And, by the way, the praying part is working!

Hi Marilyn -
Thanks so much for doing such a great job at keeping this blog. My family and I have been reading often to keep up with Dave's progress.
My name is Jennifer (Harris) Lynch and I have known Dave my whole life I think. He has been friendly with my aunt (Susan Wells) and uncle (Lee Murray) forever.
I am now working for Eric Foster and have found a new group of friends who have also been friendly with Dave for many years.
Just wanted to share my favorite memory of Dave... we were on a flight to California for my aunt and uncle's wedding, I sat next to Dave and he explained in great detail how to buy canned pineapple... apparently, you cannot buy pineapple chunks, pineapple slices, or crushed pineapple... you have to buy the small cans of pineapple "tidbits" to get the best flavor. I am sure Dave does not remember this but everytime I am in the canned fruit aisle of the grocery store I think of that great advice.
Dave, you have alot of people in your corner ... Keep up the good work.
And to Lauren, my sister Lindsay wishes you well. Hang in there.
Thanks again Marilyn -

Hey Jen,
It's funny that you should have a 'pineapple' memory of Dave. He and I also have 'pineapple' discussions because I like the fresh stuff, which I have been bringing to him in the hospital and he has been enjoying that alot. The pineapple is still one of his foods of choice. I can't wait to share this story of yours with him. He will get a kick out of it. I am actually bringing him some pineapple today. He has his little cans of tidbits all around the hospital room to eat, though if he can't get his hands of the fresh stuff.
I'm glad that you and your family are enjoying the blog. and thanks for the comments.
Well speaking of FRESH! I had the goodfortune of going to C.H.S. with David , and every morning before I could pass down the AV corridor I had to give him a kiss. We have been friends ever since despite my chapped lips! I was able to remind David of this on Fri. when I visited with he and Kathy at Lowell General, where I am a nurse and am able to keep very close tabs on him. I am so thankful his pain is more controlled and that he has found a wonderful soulmate in Kathy who is so loving and caring. I am also the proud mom of Jen Lynch(a previous blogger) and sister in law of Lee Murray another longtime friend of Daves. We all send our
best wishes to David and his family
and wish him to be feeling stronger soon. David, I'll meet you by the double doors. Paula
Oh Paula-what a great story!! And you are there with him in the hospital. I didn't know that. Please, feel free to post on this blog whenever you feel like I haven't really gotten everyone up to speed with his progress. That would be great.
This is terrific. He really enjoys these 'pineapple' (from Jen) and 'kissy' (from you) stories. I can't wait to meet all of you.
Thanks for blogging,
Marilyn
